A cultivar registered to obtain PVP must have the following characteristics: new, unique, uniform, stable, and named. This right is a reward for the efforts made by breeders in assembling the glorified cultivars, as well as to protect consumers (planting material growers or product users) from counterfeiting of products produced from these cultivars.
