Abstract
One of the major tribes in Indonesia is Chinese-Indonesia and it is divided into two streams, which are called as peranakan and totok. Peranakan, derived from the word anak or child from Malay language, refers to people who are locally born from a foreigner, who has a different ethnic, married with a local person (Knapp, 2012). Hence, in this case peranakan refers to people who are born from combination of a Chinese and indigenous people which then result in adopting mixed heritage and culture, including the usage of Indonesian language at home. It is different from totok Chinese, which are refers to people with pure blood foreigner who still hold a strong culture of their own country, which is China (Suryadinata, 1978). The presence of Peranakan-Chinese people in Indonesia was developed by the history in result from the interaction between China and Indonesian archipelago which was known to have started from centuries ago.
