Title

Advanced engineering of plant design/unit operation for sustainable utilization of Indonesian natural resources

Abstract
This research aims to perform preliminary holistic design for creating profitable and sustainable commercial products from Indonesian natural products (namely mung bean, green bean, mushrooms, rosella, betel nut, pineapple, etc. which are underutilized vegetables or fruits). The products will be produced from factories empowered by advanced engineering design and optimized conditions for its unit operations. Furthermore, the factories are designed to foster the local economy in the future new capital of Indonesia, at North Penajam Paser, East Borneo island, that is projected as the new political and economical hub of Indonesia and gateway of trading to Malaysia, Singapore, China, Japan, etc. Some natural resources might be further processed in laboratory scale to be a prototype for the aforementioned design of the factories. Moreover, one of the unit operations (e.g. membranes) can be optimized by the aid of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) when processing those vegetables or fruits, which will be advantageous for the development of science in applied mechanics, engineering chemistry, and also environmental science. Therefore, this research will be very valuable not just in terms of exploring new economy and business of Indonesia, but also in promoting advancement in the field of science and technology.
