Abstract
This research aims to examine Indonesias recent global diplomacy on marine debris. Approaching the end of Jokowis presidency, Indonesia makes a significant turn of focus to marine debris and conducts intense global diplomacy to tackle this issue in cooperation with various countries, in various fora. While Indonesia, the largest archipelagic state in the world, has declared its global maritime vision since the beginning of Jokowis presidency in 2014, the sudden turn to marine debris issues accidentally occurred after the viral video in social media reveals the severity of marine debris problems in Indonesia. This research is thus interested to examine if Indonesias diplomacy is a reactive or active foreign policy as it will make difference to the sustainability and impacts of the policy outcome. Theoretically, this research will enrich the discussion on the changing nature of foreign policy in the information era and the reviving classical problem in the global maritime commons.
