Abstract
The Deaf people around the world are still fighting for information and acquiring knowledge, which is helpful for tackling daily life hurdles. For knowledge, the Deaf people mainly rely on their kinship, friends and interpreters. But such persons are not all-time available. So, it is very difficult for the Deaf people to get the information they require. Deaf people use Sign Language for communication. In India, Indian Sign Language (ISL) is used which is influenced by Indian Languages. Indian Languages follow verb final word order as Subject+Object+Verb (SOV). In Malaysia, Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia (BIM) is used, which is influenced by Malaysian Language (Bahasa Malaysia). The objective of this research is to develop a technique which converts English book content into text understandable to Deaf people. It involves translating the book content with the help of a grammar of Sign Language and mapping book words which are synonymous with the words present in the vocabulary of the Sign Language. The outcome of this research work is an Android app which will convert the book content into text, which can be directly understandable to Deaf people. This study can be extended to generate suitable animation of Sign Language.
