Study of Twitters Functional Framework during Natural Disaster in Indonesia
Abstract
Understanding how social media functions during a disaster is one of the important tasks for disaster mitigation. This study is focusing on two main questions (1) What are Twitter functions during a natural disaster in Indonesia? and (2) Why are social media becoming more important for natural disaster communication? The research uses the qualitative method with an online observation from Twitter between January-December 2018. We also gathered data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and some communities/organization that focuses on disaster risk reduction. Disaster communication research is important because it could help government and NGO to have a better understanding of Twitters functional framework before making an impactful policy
