Community Engagement in Government Public Relations Strategy. A Comparative Study in Bali, Indonesia and Langkawi, Malaysia for Environmentally Friendly Practices

Abstract
Tourism is a key industry for many countries. Unfortunately, tourism also contributes to undesirable social, cultural and environmental consequences. Hence, government has to take some action to have a suistain tourism industry by implementing an environmentally friendly practice. This research aims to find the government’s public relations strategy through community engagement in order to implement the environmentally friendly practices in Bali, Indonesia and Langkawi, Malaysia. With qualitative approach and comparative study, some interviews will be conducted and a participant’s observation will be done to collect a deeper data. As a result, community engagement method has given much benefit to the succesfull and implementation of the regulations to support the environmentally friendly practices. Though Bali and Langkawi governments have different approach and regulations, both has tried to make the community more engage. For Bali, the decision of making the Bali philosophy as the basis of regulations has made the engagement become stronger and easier to apply. While in Langkawi, the approach is more modern like giving intensive and reward in order to open the chance for the community to get involve as big as possible
