Urban Well-Being: Pengukuran dan Konseptualisasinya (Urban wellBeing: Measurement and Conceptualization

Abstract
Half ofthe Asiaand the Pacific’s population--approximately 350 million--lived in urban areas (UNESCAP, 2013). Alongwith urbanization are reports of betterestablished infrastructurerelated to health care,education system, innovativeand ecologically-friendly and sustainableenvironmental designs,cultural diversity, use oftechnology in daily lives,as wellasconcepts like prosperity and overalllifesatisfaction. Thesocio-ecological changes broughtabout by urbanization also come with a host of various mental health concerns. Theseconcerns have been amplified by the massive changes broughtabout by thecoronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. It is timely to takecare ofthe more psychologicalaspect of urban living becausesubjective perceptionsabout howonefeels living therein turn gives feedback regarding theenvironmentaland other tangible parts (i.e. health care, psychosocialservices) ofthe urban city that needs to beimproved and developed to support urban living in thelong termfor its diverse residents. In other words,efforts toward understanding the well-being of urban residents paves the way for realizing asustainableand healthy urban development. Currentefforts in urban development in Indonesiaand the Philippines lack sufficient psychological discussion. Apsychologicaleffort to fundamentally understand the well-being ofresidents in urban Jakartaand Manila need to take placeto better informpublic policy and psychosocial services that need to bein place. Thelack ofan appropriate measure of urbanwell-being that reflects thechangingmake up ofthe urban population in Southeast Asiaisa much-needed pursuit toward achieving a moresustainableand healthy urban living in theregion. The proposed research sets to achievethefollowing objectives:(1) To constructan onlinesubjective measure of urbanwell-being, (2) To establish the measure’s reliability and validity using adultsamples in Jakarta, Indonesiaand Manila, Philippines,and (3) To capturetheconcept of urbanwell-being among Indonesian and Filipino adults. An online measure of urbanwell-beingmorerepresentative ofthe urban population in Southeast Asiaisatimely pursuitas growing inequalitiesand poverty in thelandscape of urban development in Southeast Asiais observed and much reported.
