Abstract
The goals of the research was to apply a reading material that has been compiled to the fifth year of primary school students. The reading materials was composed by translating and simplifying a Betawi fable which represents Indonesian culture entitled Bangau Tua Yang licik, translated into The Sly Old Stork. The learning objective of the reading was to measure the comprehension and the writing skills of the fifth year of primasy school students. The research applied a qualitative research by distributing reading materials to the class, and observing how the students comprehend the value found in the reading and to increase their writing skills based on the vocabulary in context.The expected result indicates that after having been trialed and observed, a reading material is proved to be able to support students achievement in comprehending the reading, improving the students writing skills based on the reading value, and their daily life experiences.
