Comparing Generation X and Generation Y on Their Preferred Retention Factors (Case Study: XYZ Foundation)

Abstract
Employee roles in organization become more significant nowadays, organizations need also to focus on the change in the composition of the employee generation group in the future. Each employee group brings a different perspective to the organization. The shifting in worker generation group in thefuture, it indicates that organization should understand thecharacteristics ofeach age group. The generations that are likely to be present in organization can be segmented into four distinct groups: Baby Boomers, Generation X, Generation Y, and Generation Y. The total number of workers in Indonesia is mostly in generation X (46%), followed by millennials (38%), generationZ (9%),and baby boomers (5%). Organizations need to attract and retain the best talent of each generation in the organization; therefore, they can maintain their competitiveness in thefuture. Many reportsabout theemployeeturnover, it revealed that voluntary turnover is differentamong employee generation. Sincethe majority populations inmost organization are GenerationXand GenerationY, this research focuses on comparing generationXand generation Y on their preferred retention factors. This examined the following factors: development opportunities, leadership, management, job autonomy, work environment, socialsupport, work life balance, and compensation. Data collection was done through questionnaire administration to 222 employees. Data Analysis was done using independentsample T-test.
