Abstract
Research on sustainable coffee supply chain management has intensely conducted by scholars in the last decades for two major reasons. First of all, coffee is a worldwide major plantation crop and it is the worlds third most consumed beverage after water and tea, as well as the second most traded commodity in the world after oil. Flores coffee is among the most sought after in international market. However, many problems in the last decade have been confronted by Flores coffee farmers and/or producers and collectors, including but not limited to: sustainable farming, post-harvest coffee processing, and even marketing. Other significant issue confronted by the Flores coffee farmers is sustainability. The major purpose of this study is to explore coffee supply chain in Western Manggarai Flores. This research will apply explanatory mixed-methods research. Accordingly, qualitative data gathered through focus group discussions (FGDs), in-depth interviews, and documentary analysis. These data will be furthered transcript in verbatim with the application of NVivo 12 software, prior to conduct both descriptive, axial, and analytical coding. Then, an empirical survey with questionnaires will be conducted to describe the conditions, challenges, and problems related to sustainable coffee supply chain management in the research settings.
