Title

Indonesia and its Contribution to International Political Economy: The Palm Oil Export Ban, the Nickel Cartel, and Digital Economy

Abstract
2022 was a busy year for Indonesian economic policymakers. Not only did the country hold the G20 presidency, but it also implemented a number of policy initiatives whose ripple effects percolated through the global economy. Under Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's presidency (2004-2014) and Joko Widodos (2014-now), Indonesia sought to recast itself as a proponent of the liberal international order by focusing on the liberalisation agenda as its global economic outlook. The motto of Indonesias G20 presidency - Recover together, Recover stronger - clearly indicates the countrys multilateral orientation. However, the two policies that really drew attention to the countrys pivotal role in global economic affairs - the palmoil export ban and the proposal to establish a nickel cartel with like-minded countries - seemed decisively mercantilist in nature.
