Democratizing Data: Unlocking Opportunities with Open Data and Open Contributorship
On July 5, 2024, BINUS University’s Research and Technology Transfer (RTT) department, along with Binus Corporate Learning and Development (BCLND), organized an online workshop titled “Democratizing Data: Unlocking Opportunities with Open Data and Open Contributorship.” This event aimed to explore the significance of open data and the collaborative potential of open contributorship in the contemporary research landscape. By fostering an environment of data sharing and collective contribution, the workshop sought to empower participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to leverage open data effectively.
The workshop featured a keynote address by Dr. Dasapta Erwin Irawan, S.T., M.T., from Institut Teknologi Bandung, who shared insights on the transformative impact of open data initiatives and collaborative research practices. Dr. Irawan emphasized the importance of accessibility and transparency in data to drive innovation and inclusivity in research. His presentation underscored the potential for open data to democratize information, enabling a wider range of researchers and institutions to contribute to and benefit from shared knowledge.
The event commenced with an opening speech by Prof. Dr. Juneman Abraham, M.Si., Vice Rector of Research and Technology Transfer at BINUS University, highlighting the university’s commitment to advancing research through open data practices. Erma Lusia, M.Par., Research Enrichment Manager at BINUS University, delivered an introductory speech, setting the stage for a day of insightful discussions and collaborative learning. Dr. Syauqi Abdurrahman, International Publication Section Head, moderated the workshop, facilitating a dynamic and engaging dialogue among participants. The workshop provided a platform for participants to engage with experts, exchange ideas, and explore the vast possibilities that open data and open contributorship present for the future of research and development.
