Strengthening Global Sinology: World Sinology Center’s Strategic Outreach to BINUS University

On April 30, 2024, the World Sinology Center extended its international outreach with a significant visit to BINUS University in Indonesia, led by Professor Xu Baofeng, the center’s director. The visit aimed to enhance academic collaborations in Sinology. BINUS University team, including Prof. Dr. Juneman Abraham, M.Si., Vice Rector Research and Technology Transfer BINUS University, and Dr. Yi Ying, M.Lit., M.Pd., Research Coordinator Chinese Literature BINUS University, discussed potential research collaborations, shared innovative research ideas, and explored opportunities for Chinese Literature academics to engage in advanced studies at the Beijing Language and Culture University. This initiative highlights the center’s commitment to fostering international scholarly exchanges and building a robust network of Sinologists. 

The World Sinology Center, recently inaugurated on August 8, 2023, at the Beijing Language and Culture University in Qingdao, is poised to become an international hub for China studies. This innovative institution results from a strategic collaboration between the university and the local government, combining academic excellence with governmental resources. It features a comprehensive infrastructure with a knowledge center, a translation center, a research center, a writing center, and a conference center.. 

The objectives of the visit are multifaceted, focusing on delivering a public lecture to BINUS faculty on China studies and establishing collaborative publication and research projects. This interaction is expected to pave the way for enriched academic partnerships and intellectual exchanges between Indonesia and China. Such collaborations could greatly benefit from the World Sinology Center’s resources, offering Indonesian scholars’ opportunities for deeper engagement with their Chinese counterparts. The ongoing efforts will likely contribute to the global understanding of China, promoting diverse scholarly perspectives and enhancing the discourse surrounding China’s cultural, ideological, and spiritual dimensions.
