Strategic BINUS–Pelindo Collaboration to Transform Sunda Kelapa Port: A Model for Smart, Sustainable, and Culturally-Integrated Logistics

PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) and Universitas Bina Nusantara (BINUS) have initiated a long-term R&D partnership to transform Sunda Kelapa Port following the April 2025 congestion. This collaboration addresses urban logistics challenges through short- and medium-term goals, focusing on infrastructure upgrades, digital systems, AI, and IoT. General Manager Pelindo Sunda Kelapa, Agus Edi Santoso, S.E., M.Sc., emphasized that academic collaboration is vital for supporting national economic priorities.

Initial efforts include infrastructure audits, access improvements, and full implementation of Auto Gate Pass and Terminal Operating System. BINUS, led by Dr. Ir. Oki Setyandito, S.T., M.Eng., IPM., and supported by AI specialists, is also developing predictive algorithms and integrated spatial planning aligned with Jakarta’s cultural preservation agenda.

In the medium term, the project involves strategic links to Tanjung Priok, dry port operations, and integration with the National Logistics Ecosystem. Dr. Ir. Alexander Agung Santoso Gunawan, S.Si., M.T., M.Sc., IPM., leads the development of a real-time Port Intelligent Management System. Ir. Taufik, S.T., M.M., Ph.D., IPM., focuses on resilient supply chains, while Prof. Dr. Juneman Abraham, S.Psi., M.Si., stresses integrating cultural heritage into smart port development aligned with SDG targets.
