BINUS @Semarang Collaborates with Local Government and Gojek to Promote Environmental Sustainability
Research and Community Development (RCD) BINUS @Semarang, in collaboration with the Character Building Development Center (CBDC) and Student Advisory Development Center (SADC), has partnered with the Semarang Barat District Office, the Environmental Agency of Semarang, and Gojek to support the #SemarangBersih movement. The initiative, launched on March 13, 2025, at the Semarang Barat District Office, was attended by key stakeholders, including Semarang Barat Subdistrict Head Elly Asmara, RCD Coordinator Sitha Afril, CBDC Representative Linda Mutiara, Student Affairs Officer Widhi Prasetya, Environmental Agency Head Arwita Mawarti, and Gojek Semarang representatives. This collaboration reflects a commitment to environmental sustainability and community empowerment.

The program integrates students from Character Building courses in community-driven activities, particularly in the construction of biopores to enhance water absorption and reduce flooding risks. Additionally, BINUS faculty members will play an active role in empowering local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and fostering urban farming initiatives. The project aims to promote environmental awareness, sustainable business practices, and urban agriculture as part of a broader effort to improve community resilience and sustainability in Semarang Barat.
A symbolic handover of equipment from the Environmental Agency to the Semarang Barat District Office, subsequently entrusted to RCD BINUS @Semarang, marked the readiness of all parties to implement the project. The initiative, set to run from March 14 to May 2025, is expected to foster long-term environmental and economic benefits for the local community. Through this collaboration, RCD BINUS @Semarang seeks to strengthen academic-community engagement by integrating research, student participation, and faculty expertise to address pressing environmental and socio-economic challenges.
