Empowering Regional Innovation: BINUS@Semarang’s Role in Advancing Community-Driven Research

BINUS @Semarang turut mendorong hilirisasi riset melalui partisipasi tim Aqualyze dalam Krenova Jateng 2025, dengan inovasi sistem monitoring air untuk kepiting bakau. Kegiatan ini membuka peluang kolaborasi dan menjadi ruang belajar nyata bagi mahasiswa, sejalan dengan visi BINUS untuk memberi dampak positif bagi masyarakat Jawa Tengah.

One of the most fulfilling responsibilities in my role as a representative of BINUS Research and Technology Transfer at the Research and Community Development unit of BINUS @Semarang is the opportunity to introduce and promote research conducted by faculty members and students in appropriate public forums. These forums serve as platforms for potential downstreaming of even the simplest innovations, aiming to create meaningful societal impact. On July 16, I had the privilege of accompanying the Aqualyze research team from the Computer Science program, which developed a water monitoring system for mangrove crabs. Aqualyze represented the city of Semarang in the 2025 Central Java Public Innovation Screening and Krenova competition.

This participation marked an important milestone for BINUS @Semarang, as it opened new opportunities for collaboration with academic institutions, industry, and local governments. Beyond that, it offered a growth-oriented space for Binusians to better understand the social complexities they may eventually serve. Such engagements reinforce the university’s mission to support applied innovation and community-oriented research that responds to real-world needs.

During the Q1 evaluation, a senior leader from BINUS Higher Education emphasized that “Semarang must be able to grasp Central Java.” I interpreted this as both an encouragement and a mandate—calling Binusian Semarang to generate tangible, positive impacts in the region. The vision extends beyond delivering education; it is about becoming a collaborative partner, a hub of innovation, and a driver for cultivating adaptive and high-quality human capital in Central Java.
