BINUS University’s Excellence in SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR): A Leading Institution in Indonesia
BINUS University has achieved top rankings in three academic disciplines in Indonesia according to the SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR): Communication, Business, Management and Accounting, and Computer Science. Additionally, it ranks third in Agricultural and Biological Sciences, fourth in Food Science, and fifth in Economics, Econometrics, and Finance. Furthermore, around 16 other disciplines are within the top 50 in Indonesia based on SIR. These rankings highlight BINUS University’s strong academic performance across various fields. At the institutional level, BINUS University is ranked 12th among all institutions in Indonesia, further demonstrating its academic and research excellence.

SIR evaluates institutions based on three weighted indicators: research (50%), innovation (30%), and societal impact (20%), reflecting their scientific, economic, and social contributions. By applying this methodology, SIR provides a comprehensive assessment of an institution’s research output and other scholarly activities while allowing comparisons across different institution sizes. The final scores for each indicator are normalized on a scale of 0 to 100.
Overall, BINUS University ranks 12th in Indonesia at the institutional level and 17th across all sectors. Within specific percentile rankings, it holds the 63rd position for research, 24th for innovation, and 11th for societal impact. Within the university sector, it ranks 16th overall, 62nd in research, 25th in innovation, and maintains its strong 11th position in societal impact. SIR serves as a valuable benchmarking tool for universities, policymakers, and research administrators, enabling them to analyze, evaluate, and enhance institutional performance. Beyond universities, SIR also ranks institutions in Government, Health, Companies, and Non-Profit sectors.
