A Fight for Survival: Supporting Dina Nurfitria’s Battle Against Ovarian Germ Cell Tumour

Dina Nurfitria, S.S., a dedicated staff member at BINUS University’s Research and Technology Transfer division since 2014, is currently facing a critical health challenge due to an advanced ovarian germ cell tumour complicated by acute kidney injury. Her condition necessitated a surgical intervention on January 9, 2025, which successfully removed 60% of the tumour; however, the remaining tumour mass continues to exert significant pressure on her kidneys, leading to severe complications. Despite medical efforts, her condition rapidly deteriorated, resulting in respiratory distress that required ventilator support by January 20, 2025. As one of the Binusians who has contributed significantly to the BINUS Journal, BINUS University is committed to providing the necessary support for her health recovery.

The financial burden associated with Dina’s prolonged treatment has become a substantial challenge for her family. The total estimated cost for her ongoing medical care, including ventilator support and potential additional surgeries, has reached 97,700 SGD—an amount that surpasses her family’s financial capacity. In response to this urgent need, Dina’s family has initiated two fundraising campaigns to support her medical expenses. We are eagerly assisting by disseminating the donation links created by Dina’s family to reach a wider audience. Contributions from well-wishers are crucial in ensuring that Dina receives the necessary treatments to improve her chances of recovery and alleviate the financial strain on her family.

Dina’s battle against this life-threatening illness highlights her resilience and determination to overcome adversity. Having served at BINUS University for over a decade, her contributions and dedication have left a lasting impact on her colleagues and the institution. Her family remains steadfast in their support, drawing strength from their hope for her recovery. The fundraising initiative aims to provide Dina with the resources she urgently needs, offering a lifeline in her journey towards healing. Through collective efforts and generosity, supporters can help secure Dina’s access to critical medical care and contribute to her fight for survival.

Update (27 Jan 2025, afternoon): At this time, Dina is not in a situation to continue her chemotherapy treatment. She is currently under intensive care at a Hospital in Malaysia, where her medical team is providing continuous treatment and monitoring to manage her condition and explore further treatment options. Besides a crowdfunding, we also kindly ask for your heartfelt prayers to the Almighty God for Dina’s recovery
