Ethical AI and Chatbot Usage in Academic Environments
The University of Pancasila recently hosted a pivotal event on December 16, 2024, addressing the utilization and ethical challenges of chatbots, specifically Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), in academic settings. The program featured a keynote session by Prof. Dr. Juneman Abraham, S.Psi., M.Si., Vice Rector of Research and Technology Transfer at BINUS University. Prof. Abraham, an expert in psychology with a focus on the intersection of technology and education, delivered an insightful discussion on leveraging GenAI for effective learning in higher education while maintaining academic integrity.
The event also included an ethical framework for chatbot usage in academic environments, aimed at preserving scientific rigor and professionalism. Moderated by Aisyah, M.Si., Head of the Community Service and Research Unit at the Faculty of Psychology, University of Pancasila, the session encouraged critical engagement on practical and ethical considerations in adopting AI technologies. Prof. Juneman’s contributions highlighted the transformative potential of AI in academia while emphasizing the importance of responsible implementation.
Opening remarks were delivered by Prof. Dr. Ir. Marsudi Wahyu Kisworo, IPU, Rector of the University of Pancasila, and Prof. Dr. Awaluddin Tjalla, M.Pd, Dean of the Faculty of Psychology. The Head of LPPM Pancasila University, Prof. Amin Soebandrio, who once served as the Director of Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology, also presented among the participants. Their speeches underscored the relevance of the topic in today’s educational landscape, setting the stage for an enriching dialogue led by Prof. Abraham.
