BINUS University Benchmarks Innovation Strategies at Universiti Malaya

On November 8, 2024, BINUS University embarked on a pivotal benchmarking visit to Universiti Malaya (UM) in Malaysia as part of their Initiative Project GR650. The delegation was led by representatives from the Infrastructure Development Office (IDO), Ir. Ferry Herdyanto, M. Const., Mgt. as The Director. It included key figures such as Elioenai Sitepu, PhD, the lead of the Initiative Project and Commercialization Section Head and Tommy Prayoga, M.Psi., Downstreaming Section Head, and Anastasia ST as Supervisor Architect.

The visit aimed to foster collaboration and exchange knowledge between the two institutions, focusing on innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology transfer. BINUS was warmly received by Universiti Malaya’s leadership team, including Prof. Aznul, Director of the UM Centre of Innovation & Enterprise (UMCIE), alongside Dr. Lee Ching Shya, Technology Transfer Manager; Athirah Binti Dazuki, Legal Officer; and Nurhazwani Rahmat, Assistant Registrar for Marketing.

During the visit, BINUS showcased its BINUS Techno Park and ecosystem for technology transfer, while Universiti Malaya presented its strategies for innovation and entrepreneurship. Discussions focused on shared goals in research and innovation, laying the foundation for future partnerships.

The BINUS delegation toured key facilities, including the UMXcelerate building for startups, advanced laboratories, and the Rose Foundation, which connects research with industry and community impact. A key outcome was identifying collaboration opportunities, such as researcher matchmaking, joint product development, and market expansion in Indonesia and Malaysia. Both institutions aim to leverage their strengths to address regional and global.
