Future Jakarta: AI and Innovative Policies for a Smarter City
On 17 October 2024, the ceremonial handover of the Future Jakarta book series was held at Universitas Jakarta International, showcasing a collaborative initiative to harness AI for smarter urban governance. Organized by Lembaga Layanan Pendidikan Tinggi Wilayah III Jakarta (LLDikti III), the event featured welcome speeches by Prof. Dr. Toni Toharudin, S.Si., M.Sc., Head of LLDikti III, and Prof. Dr. Paiman Raharjo, M.Si., Rector of Universitas Jakarta International, who hosted the event. In a symbolic moment, Purwosusilo, Acting Head of the Jakarta Education Office (Plt Dinas Pendidikan DKI Jakarta), received the book from the Chairman of LLDikti III.
The four-volume book, authored by 503 contributors across 179 chapters, emphasizes interdisciplinary strategies for a connected, efficient, and sustainable city. The editorial team includes leading scholars, with special recognition given to the Editor in Chief, Prof. Dr. Juneman Abraham, S.Psi., M.Si., Vice Rector for Research and Technology Transfer, BINUS University. Other editors include Prof. Dr. Ir. Agustinus Purna Irawan, M.T., M.M., ASEAN Eng, Prof. Dr. Andi Adriansyah, S.T., M.Eng, and Prof. Dr. Hj. Endang Purwaningsih, S.H., M.Hum., M.Kn, reflecting the project’s comprehensive and collaborative nature.
The handover to the representative of the Acting Governor of Jakarta highlights the city’s commitment to adopting AI-driven solutions for enhanced public services and smarter resource management. The application of AI within Jakarta aims to optimize essential services such as transportation systems, traffic management, and emergency response. By employing data-driven decision-making, the city seeks to allocate resources more efficiently, reduce congestion, and improve public safety. Through these technological advancements, Jakarta envisions becoming a future-ready smart city that enhances the well-being of its residents and positions itself at the forefront of innovative urban governance.
