Strengthening AI Collaboration for Humanitarian and Security Missions: BINUS University Partners with Puslitbang Polri
On 24 September 2024, a meeting was held at the Awaloedin Djamin Building, Puslitbang Polri, to discuss a cooperation agreement between BINUS University and the Research and Development Center of the Indonesian National Police (Puslitbang Polri). The meeting was attended by Brigadier General Pol. Drs. Iswyoto Agoeng Lesmana Doeta, M.Si., Head of Puslitbang Polri, along with his team, as well as representatives from BINUS University, including Prof. Dr. Ir. Widodo Budiharto, S.Si., M.Kom., Head of the Center of Excellence for Humanitarian AI & Technology, Dr. Ir. Alexander Agung Santoso Gunawan, S.Si., M.T., M.Sc., IPM, CIRR., Leader of Research Interest Group – Artificial Intelligence in Geospatial Economics, and other key members of the research and technology transfer.

The collaboration focuses on advancing artificial intelligence (AI) technology to support the police force in humanitarian and security missions. Brigadier General Iswyoto Agoeng emphasized that this partnership represents a strategic move for the Indonesian National Police to leverage advanced technology in addressing security challenges in the digital age. He underlined the importance of adopting modern technology to enhance the institution’s capabilities in a rapidly changing environment. As part of their visit, Prof. Widodo, Dr. Alexander Agung Santoso Gunawan, and Dr. Hendy Risdianto Wijaya explored the facilities at Puslitbang, including the Transportation Laboratory, and were shown a prototype of the Solar and Wind Power Plant, demonstrating Puslitbang’s commitment to integrating renewable energy solutions into its research initiatives.
Prof. Widodo Budiharto expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting the significance of user-friendly and relevant AI innovations for meeting the needs of law enforcement. Contributing to this effort, Hendy Risdianto Wijaya, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., Technology Transfer Specialist, Brilly Andro Makalew, S.Kom., MTI, Research & Empowerment Digital Specialist, and Ria Damayanti, S.Sos., Outreach – Research Section Head, under the leadership of Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Juneman Abraham, S.Psi., represent the Research and Technology Transfer BINUS University, which plays a vital role in the ongoing research and empowerment efforts in digital and AI technology.
