Focus Group Discussion on Economic Development Strategy: Research and Technology Focus in the Era of Industry 4.0

On August 28, 2024, an important Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was held at Manara KADIN to address proposed strategies for economic development in Indonesia from 2024 to 2029, with a focus on research and technology, particularly in relation to Industry 4.0. This event was organized by the Research and Technology Division of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) and brought together key stakeholders from the business and academic sectors. The session was led by Dr. Dipl.Ing. Hj. Lilly S. Wasitova from Universitas Pertahanan and Biben Akbar, Director of Business Operations at PT PINDAD.

Among the notable participants were Hendy Risdianto Wijaya, PhD, Technology Transfer Specialist BINUS University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Meyliana from BINUS University, and Prof. Ir. Ubaidillah from Universitas Negeri Sebelas Maret. Industry leaders such as Meidy Fitranto, CEO of Nodeflux, Joegianto from Polytron, Hendra Sumiarsa from DigiAsia, and Joko Widajatno S. from the Indonesian Nickel Miners Association also contributed to the discussion. The FGD aimed to address the critical challenges posed by Indonesia’s low digital literacy rates, the underdeveloped digital ecosystem, and the pressing need for policies that embrace a robust ecosystem-based approach.

The topics discussed included the lack of digital infrastructure hindering technology adoption, the need for a comprehensive ecosystem capable of supporting seamless digital device usage, and the integration of data through AI technologies. Participants emphasized the importance of an AI system that could aggregate dispersed data into a unified dashboard, which would be key in supporting informed decision-making and shaping future development policies.
