Empowering Sustainable Futures: The 1st International Conference on Eco-Friendly and Zero Waste

The 1st International Conference on Eco Friendly and Zero Waste, hosted by BINUS University Bandung on October 8-9, 2024, aims to promote research-based solutions that support sustainable practices across industries, small enterprises, and entrepreneurship. The conference emphasizes the shared responsibility of producers, entrepreneurs, researchers, and policymakers in addressing environmental degradation, fostering collaboration to create holistic, zero-waste business models from production to end-users. By providing a platform for discussions, the event encourages trust between academics, policymakers, and the public while expanding researchers’ networks concerned with environmental sustainability.

With the theme “Promoting Eco-Friendly and Zero Waste in Holistic Business Processes of SMEs and Entrepreneurial Startups,” the conference features activities such as a micro-business seminar led by Indonesia’s Deputy for Micro Enterprises, cultural and industrial discussions, eco-enzyme workshops, and tailored consultations for international and national MSMEs. Participants engage in both online and on-site presentations, with keynote speakers representing Malaysia, Thailand, the United States, and France. The opening ceremony included a gong-striking ritual led by Dr. Johan Muliadi Kerta, Campus Director of BINUS University Bandung, and witnessed by key BINUS leadership figures, including Prof. Dr. Juneman Abraham.

The keynote sessions on Day 1 featured insights from Dr. Yulius, Deputy for Micro Enterprises, and cultural expert Prof. Jacob Soemardjo, followed by creative entrepreneur M. Ari Nugraha and academic leader Dr. Mulyani Karmagatri. Day 2 expanded the international discourse with presentations from Dr. Roberto Saldivar (Texas A&M University), Chidchanok Anantamongkulkul (Phuket Rajabhat University), Dr. Isma Addi Jumbri (Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka), and Benjamin Casteillo from New World Together. High-level attendees included Dr. Rudy Aryanto and various academic leaders from BINUS University, underscoring the conference’s significance in driving sustainable innovation.
