Innovative Collaboration: Revitalizing Wayang Beber with Electronic Artistry

Dr. Rinda Hedwig, a member of the Research Interest Group in Photonic and Computer Systems at BINUS University, leads an innovative collaboration with ISEN France. The French team, consisting of Alban Bergounioux, Pierre Le Gac, and Noé Détré, works closely with Rinda’s team to fuse tradition and technology through the creation of an electronic Wayang Beber. This ancestral Javanese art form, traditionally animated by a skilled puppeteer, is being transformed into an electronic medium, offering a fresh perspective on the cultural narrative.

The collaboration emphasizes the role of the French students from ISEN France in integrating cutting-edge electronics with traditional Indonesian art. By working with Danendro Adi, M.Arts., Ahmad Faisal Choiril Anam Fathoni, M.Sn., Devi Kurniawati Homan, M.Sn., Jonata Witabora, M.Sn., Angela Oscario, M.Ds., and Budi Sriherlambang, M in Imagineering., the teams merge artistic vision with technological expertise. This partnership not only bridges cultural differences but also encourages creative problem-solving and innovation.

This project highlights the importance of international collaboration in preserving and revitalizing cultural heritage. Through the electronic Wayang Beber, the teams aim to engage new audiences and ensure the longevity of this traditional art form. The project exemplifies how global partnerships can enhance cultural appreciation while leveraging modern technology to expand the reach of ancient traditions.
