BDSRC and Imelda University Sign New MoU and MoA to Develop AI-Based Tuberculosis Diagnosis Application

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) research collaboration between BDSRC and Imelda University and Hospital in Medan is continuing to advance. In their previous collaboration, BDSRC successfully developed the Intelligent Diagnosis of Radiology Images (InDRI) application, which assists Imelda Hospital radiologists in classifying four types of lung diseases and automatically generating medical reports. This success has led to an extension of their partnership.

On June 21, 2024, with a renewed commitment to combat tuberculosis (TBC), a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) and a new memorandum of agreement (MoA) were signed among three parties. This latest collaboration aims to develop the Artificial Intelligence Diagnosis of Tuberculosis (AIDTB) application, designed to accurately detect tuberculosis using computer vision models. This application will reduce the labor-intensive microscope testing required by radiologists, thereby increasing their work efficiency at Imelda Hospital.

The MoU and MoA were signed by Dr. Nelly, S.Kom., M.M., CSCA, representing BINUS University, and Dr. dr. Imelda Liana Ritonga, SKP., M.Pd., MN, representing Imelda University and Hospital in Medan. Following the signing, the research roadmap details were discussed, focusing on the community impact of the research, the challenges encountered during implementation, and the potential for bioinformatics research in TBC prevention. The event was also attended by Drs. Sutristo, Director of PT Mega Medica Pharmaceuticals; Prof. Dr. Juneman Abraham, S.Psi., M.Si, BINUS Vice Rector of Research and Technology Transfer; and Prof. Bens Pardamean, B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D, Head of BDSRC.
