Building Intellectual Legacy: Achieving Patents and Copyrights in Social Sciences and Humanities
On May 28, 2024, Binus University Syahdan Campus hosted a hybrid workshop titled “Building Intellectual Legacy: Tips for Achieving Patents in Social Sciences and Humanities.” The event began with an opening speech by Dr. Nurlina, M.M., the Research Office Senior Manager at Binus University, who highlighted the significance of intellectual property in advancing academic and practical contributions in the fields of social sciences and humanities.
The workshop featured prominent speakers, including Prof. Shidarta, M.Hum., a Lecturer Specialist at BINUS University, and Dr. Besar, M.H., the Deputy Head of the Business Law Department at BINUS University. Prof. Shidarta shared his expertise on how researchers in the humanities can identify and develop innovative ideas that are eligible for patent protection, emphasizing the unique challenges and opportunities in this field. Dr. Besar provided practical guidance on the legal processes involved in obtaining patent protection in Indonesia, outlining the necessary steps and considerations for securing intellectual property rights effectively.
Additionally, the workshop covered the topic of acquiring copyright in the humanities. The speakers discussed the importance of copyright for protecting creative works and provided a comprehensive overview of the procedures for obtaining copyright protection in Indonesia. The event offered valuable insights and practical advice for academics, researchers, and practitioners aiming to safeguard their intellectual contributions and build a lasting legacy in the social sciences and humanities.
