Enhancing Journal Governance Quality: A Seminar for Advancing Article Review Processes
The Journal of ASEAN Studies (JAS) has reached a significant milestone in mid-2022 by becoming the sole international relations journal indexed in SCOPUS, while also achieving the highest quartile ranking in Cultural Studies (Q1). However, this success has brought forth various challenges, including the need to enhance the quality of published articles and manage a notable surge in article submissions. To maintain its position as a top-ranked SCOPUS journal, JAS recognizes the importance of augmenting the number of reputable reviewers and improving its governance and review processes. Thus, a seminar and work-committee meeting were convened on February 23, 2024, aimed at expanding insights and knowledge to elevate journal governance, particularly focusing on article review processes, to attain higher quality standards.
The seminar convened renowned figures in the field, including Prof. Dr. Istadi, ST., MT., the National Reviewer and Editor in Chief of the Bulletin of Chemical Reaction Engineering & Catalysis, alongside key members of JAS editorial team: Prof. Dr. Tirta N. Mursitama, Ph.D., Dr. Nurlina, M.M., Dr. Lili Yulyadi, M.HSc., Editor in Area Studies, Dr. Miranda Paulina Tahalele, S.IP, MA., Dr. Mohammad Ichsan, Dip.-Ing., M.T., and Sukmawani Bela Pertiwi, S.I.P., M.A. The work-committee meeting served as a platform to solicit insights from seasoned journal managers, evaluate performance, devise strategies, and formulate short-term and long-term work programs. Through this workshop, the editorial team aims to craft strategies and work programs to uphold JAS’s SCOPUS indexing and achieve even greater accolades.
In navigating the complexities of academic publishing, JAS recognizes the imperative of continuous improvement and adaptation to sustain its standing in the scholarly community. By fostering collaboration, embracing expert guidance, and implementing robust governance and review mechanisms, JAS endeavors to fortify its position as a premier hub for scholarly discourse in ASEAN studies, contributing to the advancement of knowledge and discourse in the field of international relations and cultural studies.
