Binus University’s Bioinformatics and Data Science Research Center (BDSRC) recently organized an impactful Visiting Professor agenda from January 15 to January 19, focusing on intellectual property (IP) in life sciences, specifically within the palm oil and fisheries sectors. The event, featuring an opening speech by Prof. Dr. Juneman Abraham, M.Si., Vice Rector Research and Technology Transfer, saw active participation from key figures like Prof. Dr. Tirta N. Mursitama, Ph.D., Vice Rector Collaboration and Global Engagement and Prof. Bens Pardamean, Ph.D. Head of BDSRC.

Mega Medica Pharmaceuticals, Masyarakat Ikan Gabus Indonesia, and Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, providing a diverse range of perspectives. Renowned experts, Prof. Dr. iur. Claudia Seitz, M.A., and Dr. iur. Boris Riemer, enriched discussions on formulating an initial framework for intellectual property protection in life sciences.
Throughout the week, participants engaged in dynamic debates and collaborative brainstorming sessions to develop a comprehensive action plan. The emphasis was on creating a robust framework tailored to the unique challenges of palm oil and fisheries. The integration of industry representatives alongside academic experts ensured a comprehensive perspective, blending legal insights with real-world considerations. This collaborative effort aimed to create intellectual property frameworks that are both legally sound and adaptable to the evolving life sciences landscape.
