Rodent Tuber Harvesting and Seeds Planting

In the lush hills of Lembang, West Java, a groundbreaking initiative has taken root, aimed at harnessing the potential of the Rodent Tuber (Rodentia Tuberosa) as a natural immunity booster for humans. This innovative project, spearheaded by esteemed experts and researchers in collaboration with local farmers, marks a significant step forward in utilizing indigenous flora to enhance public health and well-being.

The central focus of the event was the cultivation of the Rodent Tuber, a plant known for its potential immune-boosting properties. This plant has garnered attention for its historical use in traditional medicine practices. Dr. Nesti F. Sianipar, M.Si., a prominent researcher at Binus University, has been at the forefront of studying the potential health benefits of the Rodent Tuber. Dr. Sianipar’s absence from the event did not deter the participants from carrying out the essential tasks of harvesting and seed planting with a shared sense of purpose.

This seed-planting project was commissioned by BINUS Business and Technological Innovation team, led in the field by Elioenai Sitepu, Ph.D., a distinguished figure in the realm of Research Product Commercialization. Assisting him were Ria Damayanti, S.Sos., a seasoned professional in Research Promotion and Partnership, and Desri Fatimah Natalia Tambunan, S.E., M.I.Kom., an Intellectual Property Staff member with a strong commitment to safeguarding local innovations. The heartbeat of the project, however, resonated within the local community of Lembang farmers. Their deep connection to the land and its offerings served as the backbone of this endeavor, infusing it with a sense of authenticity and sustainability.

The three-day event, spanning August 28 to 30, 2023, revolved around two critical activities: harvesting and seed planting. The farmers, armed with their traditional wisdom, worked in harmony with researchers to carefully collect mature Rodent Tubers. Simultaneously, discussions and workshops were held to educate both the farmers and the public about the benefits of Rodent Tuber consumption. Moreover, an essential element of the initiative was the establishment of a sustainable cycle. To ensure a continuous supply of Rodent Tubers, a seed planting program was initiated. Farmers learned how to cultivate and propagate the tubers effectively, thereby safeguarding their supply for generations to come.
