Big Data Talks: Big Data Analytics in Foreign Policy

On 22nd May 2023, an insightful discussion on “Big Data Analytics in Foreign Policy” took place at the Badan Strategi Kebijakan Luar Negeri, Kementerian Luar Negeri Republic Indonesia. The event aimed to explore the potential of big data analytics in shaping and improving foreign policy decisions. The discussion brought together esteemed speakers from the Kementerian Luar Negeri and Binus University.

The event commenced with Dr. Yayan Ganda Hayat Mulyana welcoming the participants and emphasizing the importance of utilizing big data analytics in foreign policy. He highlighted how rapidly evolving technologies and the availability of vast amounts of data present both opportunities and challenges for diplomacy and international relations.

Prof. Dr. Tirta N. Mursitama then presented an overview of the role of big data analytics in foreign policy. He emphasized that leveraging big data can enhance the decision-making process by providing policymakers with valuable insights into various aspects of international relations. Prof. Mursitama also discussed the need for robust data collection and analysis frameworks to ensure accurate and reliable results.

Following that, Moch. Faisal Karim delved into the technical aspects of big data analytics. He explained the methodologies and tools used to process and analyze large datasets, emphasizing the importance of data quality and integrity. Mr. Karim also highlighted the potential ethical considerations that arise when dealing with sensitive data and the need for responsible data governance practices.

Reza Rahutomo complemented the discussion by showcasing real-world applications of big data analytics in foreign policy. He presented case studies where big data had been effectively utilized to monitor global trends, analyze public sentiment, and predict geopolitical developments. Mr. Rahutomo emphasized that big data analytics could provide valuable insights into emerging issues and facilitate evidence-based policy formulation.
