Media Narrative Analysis on Joko Widodo’s Leadership Toward the End of His Presidency in Indonesia

This study conducts a computational analysis of media narratives concerning Joko Widodo’s leadership as his presidency concludes in 2024. Drawing on textual data from two major Indonesian media outlets-BBC News Indonesia and Tirto.id-the study applies lexicon-based sentiment analysis and Latent Dirichlet Allocation to uncover underlying sentiment trends and thematic structures. Topic modeling results indicate divergent narrative orientations: BBC News Indonesia maintains a relatively balanced portrayal, acknowledging both policy achievements and administrative challenges, whereas Tirto.id exhibits a more critical tone, particularly highlighting issues related to legal reform, political integrity, and human rights. These findings demonstrate how different media outlets construct contrasting representations of presidential performance, which may influence public perception and political discourse during Indonesia’s leadership transition.
