NVIDIA DLI Workshop at Universitas Muslim Indonesia Faculty of Computer Science and Informatics

On August 4, 2025, the Muslim University of Indonesia (UMI) held the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute (DLI) Workshop. This activity took place in the Laboratory of the Faculty of Computer Science and Informatics (FIKOM) at UMI and was attended by students and lecturers. The workshop was delivered by Matthew Martianus Henry, S.Kom. and Mahmud Isnan, M.Eng., both certified NVIDIA instructors and AI research assistants at the Artificial Intelligence Research & Development Center (AIRDC).
The event was officially opened by the Vice Dean of FIKOM UMI, Ir. Yulita Salim, S.Kom., M.T., MTA., who in her remarks emphasized the importance of this activity as a strategic effort to improve the skills of the academic community. She emphasized that this type of training is highly relevant in encouraging the growth of research and innovation within UMI.
In the opening session, Prof. Dr. Bens Pardamean, Director of AIRDC, also stated that this workshop not only serves as a learning platform for cutting-edge technology but also serves as the starting point for research collaboration between AIRDC and UMI. He stated that the results of this collaboration should be demonstrated through a Proof of Concept (PoC) as a tangible output.
During the workshop, participants received in-depth material on the basic concepts of deep learning and hands-on experience using NVIDIA GPU technology. At the end of the event, participants were invited to discuss and design PoC ideas that could potentially be further developed in collaborative research. Some of the Proof of Concept (PoC) topics discussed included image segmentation, a facial recognition-based intelligent attendance system, and parking area detection. This discussion served as the first step in bridging academic research with real-world solutions applicable across various fields.
