NVIDIA DLI Workshop with INSTIPER Yogyakarta

As part of a research partnership with INSTIPER Yogyakarta, an NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute (DLI) Ambassador Workshop is held onsite in INSTIPER Yogyakarta on 9 – 10 October 2024. The workshop is instructed by Ir. Kuncahyo Setyo Nugroho, a certified NVIDIA instructor in Fundamentals of Deep Learning course, who is also an AI research assistant in BDSRC|AIRDC. The workshop is attended by researchers from INSTIPER Yogyakarta.

Prior to the main workshop, a pre-workshop with the theme Best Practices in Data Collection and Preparation for AI in Agriculture is held on 9 October 2024. Prof. Dr. Bens Pardamean opens the pre-workshop, continued by the delivery of the main pre-workshop materials by Ir. Kuncahyo Setyo Nugroho. This pre-workshop serves as an introduction for the researchers in INSTIPER Yogyakarta in preparing the data for deep learning research. The pre-workshop also responds to the INSTIPER Yogyakarta rector’s concern regarding the previous data collection process, which is unsuitable for the deep learning pipeline. In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Bens Pardamean states the importance of standard procedure in data collection, with Ir. Kuncahyo Setyo Nugroho agreed with Prof. Dr. Bens Pardamean’s speech, emphasizing the term garbage in, garbage out to ensure a standardized data collection process.

The main DLI workshop is held on the next day, attended by 30 INSTIPER Yogyakarta researchers. The workshop opens with an opening speech from Prof. Dr. Bens Pardamean and Dr. Ir. Harsawardana, M.Eng, INSTIPER Yogyakarta’s Rector. Prof. Dr. Bens Pardamean hopes for a long-lasting impact of the workshop, which is realized by the proof-of-concept (PoC) from the participants after the workshop, while Dr. Ir. Harsawardana, M.Eng states his hope for this workshop in supporting the development of AI-based agriculture.  In the main workshop, the participants are given the theories behind deep learning and involves in a hands-on coding experience led by Ir. Kuncahyo Setyo Nugroho. The workshop ends with the participants creating their proof-of-concept for further research collaboration between BDSRC|AIRDC and INSTIPER Yogyakarta.
