AI in Smart City, Round Table Discussion, Launching of the Premiere AI R&D Center in Indonesia

In the second session round table discussion, launching of AI R&D Center in Indonesia, a topic of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Smart City was discussed. The topic in this session was brought by Donald Chen, Solution Architect Director of NVIDIA Asia Pacific region. Meanwhile, Dr. Bens Pardamean, Head of Bioinformatics and Data Science Research Center, Bina Nusantara University acted as a moderator for the discussion. In this session, Chen gave potential uses of AI in Smart City. He said that by 2020, there will be 1 Billion cameras worldwide. These cameras will generates huge amount of videos that need to be analyzed. By implementing AI, it is possible to have an Intelligent Video Analytic (IVA), such as vehicle detection, crowd density analysis, and face recognition.

Donald also added that this IVA can be employed to a widespread aspects. For example, HIKVision, one of the NVIDIA metropolis partners, has adopted AI to help protect citizens and property, manage traffic and control vehicles, deter vandals and intrusions, and increase criminal investigation efficiency and response time. Another partners, SKYREC, uses AI to help shops to determine goods popularity and shopper behavior pattern to maximize their sells.

In this session, NodeFlux, the local NVIDIA metropolis partners located in Jakarta, also shared their current application of AI in IVA. Faris Rahman, NodeFlux CEO, said that NodeFlux already helps Jakarta Government to install IVA in the system of TransJakarta, a government’s public transport service in Jakarta. This AI enables TransJakarta company to control the crowd in TransJakarta stations and buses.
