BINUS University’s FBRC Team Attended a PVP Commission Session on Rodent Tuber Mutant Pekalongan Accession in Yogyakarta
The Center for Plant Variety Protection and Agricultural Licensing (PVTPP) held a PVP Commission Session on Thursday, March 7 2024 at the Malyabhara Hotel, Yogyakarta. Dr. Nesti F Sianipar, S.P., M.Si (Head of Food Biotechnology Research Center, Binus University) attended the PVP (Plant Variety Protection) session by proposing 3 mutant rodent tuber Pekalongan Acessions that had been selected to be registered as new superior varieties, such as PM4, PM6 and PM9. These three candidate varieties were proposed because they have advantages in morphology based on field testing. In addition, they have characters that can be differentiated based on molecular markers.
The results of the PVP trial led to positive results. A proposed mutant, PM6 (Binusantara 1), successfully passed the PVP trial and is awaiting patent approval. On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Muhamad Syukur, S.P., M.Si., and Prof. Dr. Ir. Sobir, M.Si also part of the Commission Team. Plant varieties are protected by passing the BUSS test, which is one of the factors assessed. As a result, plants have new, unique, uniform, and stable characteristics. Prof. Dr. Ir. Sobir, M.Si., was very impressed with the results of the FBRC Team’s experiments with mutant rodent tubers to be proposed as upcoming varieties. He also suggested that the other 2 mutant numbers be re-selected to obtain uniform and stable mutants.
