Proposed to Become a New Variety, Prospective Rodent Tuber Varieties Dr. Nesti F. Sianipar SP., M.Si was examined through the BUSS Test.
LEMBANG – Plant variety protection (PVT) rights were sought for the new varieties Binusantara 1, Tipo Nusantara 3, and Tipo Binusia 2 submitted by Dr. Nesti F Sianipar, S.P., M.Si. A candidate variety plant can be granted plant variety protection (PVT) rights if the candidate variety plant has been assessed as suitable for obtaining PVT rights through the BUSS (New, Unique, Uniform, Stable) test by the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) through the Center for Plant Variety Protection and Agricultural Licensing (PPVTPP). At the Ministry of Agriculture’s Substantive Examination Garden (KPS) in Manoko, Lembang, Bandung Regency, activities were conducted to prepare for the BUSS Test on Wednesday (23/08/2023). Rodent tuber (Typhonium flagelliforme Lodd.) plants of new varieties are being developed at 1,200 meters altitude in the highlands. Ministry of Agriculture requirements, especially those related to the PPVTPP, include the BUSS test feasibility test. A new variety must be different from previous varieties in order to be considered for selection. Based on morphological signs, both qualitative, quantitative, and pseudo-qualitative, the BUSS test is used to identify the character of a plant variety, with the help of guidelines from the PPI (Individual Testing Guide) at the national level and UPOV at the international level. This activity was carried out directly by Dr. Nesti F Sianipar, S.P., M.Si, and Dr. Ir. Ragapadmi Purnamaningsih, S.P., M.Si. as the applicants, breeders and inventors of the prospective variety. An assessment of the rodent tuber plants was made by the relevant PPVTPP team. Candidate rodent tuber varieties were tested using BUSS. Rodent tuber plants are examined and monitored during the substance test. PPVTPP has also assessed the proposed rodent tuber mutant plants. This test may increase the biodiversity of plants in Indonesia and produce rodent tubers that produce anti-cancer compounds by increasing their production.
