Dr. Bens Pardamean
Director
Dr. Bens Pardamean has over thirty years of global experience in information technology, bioinformatics, and education, including a strong background in database systems, computer networks, and quantitative research. His professional experience includes being a practitioner, researcher, consultant, entrepreneur, and lecturer. His current research interests are in developing and analyzing genetic data in cancer studies and genome-wide association studies (GWAS) for agriculture genetic research. After successfully leading the Bioinformatics Research Interest Group, he currently holds a dual appointment as the Director of Bioinformatics & Data Science Research Center (BDSRC) and as an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Bina Nusantara (BINUS) in Jakarta, Indonesia. He earned a doctoral degree in informative research from the University of Southern California (USC), as well as a master’s degree in computer education and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from California State University, Los Angeles.

Dr. Haryono Soeparno
Senior Researcher
Dr. Haryono Soeparno has over thirty-six years of experience in information technology and its applications in resource management, especially in agricultural topics. He has been a senior lecturer in computer science subjects at BINUS University since 1984. He also has experience in R&D management, communications and collaborations at national and international bodies. Currently, he is a Senior Faculty Member at BINUS Graduate Program (BGP) and Senior Researcher at BDSRC. His expertise and research interests are in modeling and simulations using dynamic systems, knowledge-based systems, and neural networks. He earned a doctoral degree in Computer Science from the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand in 1995, a master’s degree in Computer Science from Western Michigan University, USA in 1987, and a bachelor’s degree from Bogor Agricultural University in 1980. He also earned certificates from Honeywell Education Center, Boston, Massachusetts, US in Data Base Systems and System Programming; and from National Computer Institute, The Office of the President, Quezon City, Philippines, in Programming and System Analysis and Design.

Dr. James W. Baurley
Senior Researcher & Research Consultant
Dr. James W. Baurley has ten years of experience developing software for data intensive applications. His current research interests and expertise are in developing computational methods to investigate the interplay of genetic and environmental factors in complex diseases, such as nicotine dependence, asthma, and cancer. Previously, he was a computer scientist at the University of Southern California, where he developed computational and statistical methods applicable to genome-wide data and investigated the role of genes in childhood asthma. He earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Clemson University, as well as a master’s degree in biostatistics and a Ph.D. in statistical genetics and genetic epidemiology from the University of Southern California. He currently is adjunct faculty and bioinformatics research consultant at Bina Nusantara (BINUS) University and co-founder and principal data scientist at BioRealm LLC, a US-based research group developing a suite of tools that support the genetic understanding of, and treatments for health issues.

Dr. Christopher McMahan
Visiting Senior Researcher
Dr. Christopher McMahan is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Clemson University. He completed his Bachelor’s degree majoring in mathematics, minoring in physics, at Austin Peay State University, Clarksville, TN. He then earned a master’s degree in mathematics at Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, Kentucky. He then completed a doctoral degree in statistics at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC. After completing his Ph.D., he joined Clemson University as an assistant professor, and he was recently promoted to the rank of associate. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he also consults with Biorealm and serves as a Visiting Professor at BINUS University. His research interests include, but are not limited to, categorical data analysis, group testing, survival data analysis, nonparametric methods, measurement error models, spatio-temporal modeling, statistical computing, Bayesian parametric/nonparametric estimation, high dimensional regression techniques, epidemiology/public health, and biomedical applications.

Carissa I. Pardamean, BSc, BA, MSc, PhD (cand)
Computational Geneticist & Consultant
Carissa Pardamean has experience in both laboratory work and retrospective clinical research. Her research as an undergraduate utilizes yeast experimental genetics techniques to decipher the genetic basis of neural tube defect and the mechanism of folate supplementation in neural tube defect prevention. Her most recent project investigates provider practices’ efficiency in managing thyroid disorders at Boston Children’s Hospital and Brigham & Women’s Hospital. Her primary research interest involves finding the cause and treatment method for complex diseases based on its genetics genesis. She is currently an associate researcher at BioRealm Research and Harvard University’s Longwood Medical Area − particularly at Boston Children’s Hospital. She is also a computational geneticist and scientific manuscript editor for Bina Nusantara University. She earned a master’s of science degree in biomedical sciences from Boston University, as well as a double bachelor’s degree in molecular & cell biology (genetics emphasis) and linguistics from University of California, Berkeley. She is currently a doctoral candidate at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in medical and molecular pharmacology.

Anzaludin Samsinga Perbangsa, SKom, MMSI

Arif Budiarto, S.Kom., M.Sc.
Research Associate
Arif Budiarto is a technology enthusiast. He has work experiences ranging from system implementer to UX researcher at several IT companies. He also had a great opportunity to join summer internship program at the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) as a business and technology analyst. His expertise areas include Internet of Things (IoT) and Human Computer Interaction (HCI). His current research interest is how to design from, with and by data. He aims to combine his expertise in IoT with the advantage of data science to solve multidisciplinary real life problems. He previously studied computer science at Bina Nusantara University for his bachelor’s degree and earned MSc with distinction in Advanced Design Informatics at the University of Edinburgh.

Tjeng Wawan Cenggoro, S.Kom, MTI
Research Associate
Wawan is an academic whose researches focus on the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Wawan got his bachelor’s degree from STMIK Widya Cipta Dharma, with an AI-based final project. This final project employed Artificial Neural Network to recognize underlying patterns of human behavior in Rock-Paper-Scissor game. Wawan then continued his study in AI by taking Master Degree in Bina Nusantara University. During his Master’s study, he started to learn the state-of-the-art technique in AI called Deep Learning. The knowledge he gained in Deep Learning is then immersed in his Master final project, in which he tried to classify land use/land cover of Jakarta from satellite imagery. Currently, he takes an interest in discovering beneficial information in genomics data using Deep Learning. In addition to his AI academic research project, he is also a certified instructor for NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute.

Reza Rahutomo, S.Kom, MMSI
Research Assistant
Reza earned both his Bachelor and Master of Information System from Binus University. He worked in Japan for an AI developer company as Technology Development Consultant until he came back to Indonesia to apply his AI and data science experience and knowledge. Beside machine learning, his expertise and curiosity covered data engineering, time series analysis, and public speaking as well. Starts from 2020, he becomes a faculty member of School of Information System and teaches database systems and data warehouse regularly.

Bharuno Mahesworo, ST, MSc
Research Assistant
After graduated from University of Glasgow with Distinction for his Master’s Degree, Bharuno joined Bioinformatics and Data Science Research Center in 2018. With his background M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering and B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Institut Teknologi Bandung, he has a wide knowledge of general engineering with a specialization in data analaysis and control system. With his specialization in machine learning and data science, Bharuno has helped the center in bioinformatics analysist and machine learning development. Currently, he is the person in charge for the protein post-translational modification analysis, including phosphorylation and methylation site prediction. Evenmore, Bharuno also teach in quantitative research implementation in R. Since joined this research center, Bharuno has also developed programming and AI development skill for images and sequance data. Currently, Bharuno is interested in AI development for stock exchange, bioinformatics, and cancer research.

Alam Ahmad Hidayat, SSi, MSc
Research Assistant
Alam has experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI), as well as applied statistics, including biostatistics. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Institut Teknologi Bandung, specializing in theoretical physics. Later, Alam earned master’s degree in physics from University of Bonn and developed interest in data analysis through his final project that explores the use of Bayesian analysis to analyze data in hadron physics. Currently, his main interest is in the application of deep learning (neural networks) in various tasks that include sound and image recognition and analyzing biological data. Furthermore, he is also actively participating with all bioinformatics projects in BDSRC to help in statistical data analysis.

Kartika Purwandari, ST, MSc
Research Assistant
Kartika has a lot of research experience focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI). She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Informatics Engineering from Brawijaya University with an AI-based and image processing final project. This final project employed an Artificial Neural Network to identify the quality of patchouli leaves. Continuing her interest in machine learning and image processing, she finished her Master’s degree in Computer Science from National Central University Taiwan with joined in Machine Learning and Biometrics Recognition Laboratory. Currently, Kartika has developed programming based on AI and bioinformatics by joined the colorectal cancer project since she joint BDSRC. Furthermore, she is also active in participating with AI projects in BDSRC to help in process data about lidar, air quality, crowd counting, fishery image, and pap smear.

Digdo Sudigyo S.Si, M. Biotech
Research Assistant
Digdo Sudigyo has graduated with a master’s degree in biotechnology from Gadjah Mada University with a focus on health biotechnology. Digdo has an interest in the world of bioinformatics research, especially on genomics and cancer research. He has published a thesis regarding the transcriptome profiling of nasopharyngeal cancer using bioinformatics analysis. Currently, digdo is involved in working a bioinformatics research project at BDSRC, especially in the molecular and cancer fields.

Hery H. Mulyo, SKom, MMSI
Adjunct Researcher
Hery H. Mulyo has more than 22 years of experience as lecturer and 8 years in research. His research expertise is in developing management information systems (MIS) of health institutions such as hospitals and clinics. His other roles for the Research Center are in establishing collaborations, drafting and creating contracts, and managing financial administration. He has obtained various grants such as competition grants, foreign collaboration and international publications grants, and the national strategic grants from DIKTI. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Informatics Management, majoring in Computerized Accounting as well as a master’s degree in Information System from Bina Nusantara University.

Research Coordinator (Central Java and Yogyakarta) 
Teddy Suparyanto gained a deep understanding of developing and managing IT systems in the educational sector from his 6 years experience as Head of Multimedia and IT Department. He is able to manage all matters relating to multimedia data, web programming, database system, design organizational and development strategies based on the IT systems, and IT procurement to support the achievement of the vision, mission, and objectives of the institution. Graduated from mathematics teacher education faculty, he has an educational background in Mathematics, Teaching Skills, Educational Psychology, Pedagogy Philosophy, Teaching Strategy, and Learning Media.  His ability in Statistics is very helpful in the data analysis process. He completed his master’s degree program in information technology at Bina Nusantara University. His current research interests and expertise are in implementing IT in the education sector based on Team-Based Learning (TBL) approach and developing CANREG 5 as cancer registration for Indonesia.

An innovative and knowledgeable network engineer and software developer with proven skills in installing, designing, and developing IT solutions. Fitra is proficient in network management tools and programming languages. His expertise includes in cloud computing applications, big data processing, and implementation of a variety of network devices. He also a lecturer at Bina Nusantara University. His current research interest focus on developing tools for big data analysis and parallel programming especially in bioinformatics problems. Rezzy Eko Caraka, SSi, Msc, PhD (cand)

Obtained bachelor, master, and Ph.D degrees from Universitas Diponegoro, The National University of Malaysia, and Chaoyang University in 2011,2018, and 2019-present, respectively. During completion of Doctoral study, Rezzy Eko Caraka received Excellent Research Awards from the President of CYUT (2019 and 2020) due to outstanding performance in PhD research. In September 2020, He starts the Post-Doctoral (Researcher) in Research for Basic Sciences, Lab Hierarchical Likelihood, Department of Statistics, Seoul National University. He was honored with numerous awards including the best paper of FREKS 2019 awarded by the Ministry of Finance Indonesia, and Financial Services Authority. Currently, He has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed papers and held 2 copyright. At the same time,  He  already published more than 10 statistics books including Geographically Weighted Regression, Spatial Data Panel, Introduction of GLM by using R, Advanced Bioinformatics by using R. He also co-founder STATCAL (www.statcal.com).  His  research interests include, but are not limited to, Statistics Geospatial, Bioinformatics,Statistics Ecological Biodiversity, and H-Likelihood. He passed technical training in intermediate-level data science by Deep Learning Institute NVIDIA and Bioinformatics BioREALM USA.

Ika Nurlaila PhD

Ika Nurlaila is an alumnus of School of Cancer Sciences, Department of Cancer Genomics in the University of Birmingham, UK. She involved in a longitudinal study on malnutrition-susceptible children in South-Eastern Asian countries led by The School of Public Health where she grasped that eye to eye interviews across relevant stakeholders might provide a pivotal and direct link to the feasible solution. Prior to the doctoral program, she was a lecturer at Dept of Biotechnology and Neurosciences, Faculty of Life Sciences, Surya University. Her cellular and molecular-related interested had been long nurtured since her undergraduate where her laboratory experiment called Quercetin Effects of Apoptosis and Proliferation in NDEA-induced Lung Cancer won a prize from LIPI (Indonesia Institute of Sciences) and in the same year, she secured a research grant by TPSDP/Asian Development Bank for the pertinent research. The interest grew since and she made it linearly into her most current degree where she also concentrated on the cellular aspect of immune responses.
