Visiting Professor Day 2: Research Discussion with ITB Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

On the second day of the Visiting Professor Program, Prof. Dr. Bens Pardamean, together with Prof. Dr. Derrick Speaks, Prof. Dr. Arief Budiman, Dr. Endang Djuana, Dr. Zaki Saldi, Dr. Andrea Stevens Karnyoto, and Dr. Fitya Syarifa Mozar, visited the Institute Technology Bandung (ITB) to expand the research consortium on AI applications in Additive Manufacturing and semiconductor research.

A seminar was held the ITB Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. The delegations from ITB who attended the seminar included Prof. Ir. Andi Isra Mahyuddin (Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering), Dr. Eng. Gea Fardias Mu’min, S.T., M.T. (Coordinator for Partnership), Rianto Adhy Sasongko S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D (Vice Dean for Resources), Dr. Arie Wibowo, S.Si., M.Si (Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering), and Dr. Febri Baskoro.  Each team presented their research interests, experiences and expertise. Dr. Febri Baskoro explained his interests in energy storage systems, including fast charging battery, thermal management system, high-performance lithium-ion battery, Zinc-ion battery, and sodium-ion battery. This was followed by Dr. Arie’s presentation on a 3D-printed, innovative functional scaffold for bone tissue engineering. Dr. Gea also discusses the potential of modelling simulation based on machine learning to replace conventional Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), which is a direction that all parties can contribute significantly. ITB can contribute to the CFD, whereas BINUS and Trisakti can contribute to AI and Machine Learning to improve additive manufacturing. In this proposed project, Oregon Tech and Arizona State University can provide the capabilities for experimental verification.  Lastly, Prof. Derrick Speaks shared his expertise on the 3D printing system of semiconductor materials.

Dr. Zaki Saldi from Universitas Pembangunan Jaya (UPJ) presented a topic of laser-based additive manufacturing. He also shared information on the International Conference on Science, Technology, and Applications of Additive Manufacturing (ISTA-AM), which will be held on 1-2 December 2025 in Jakarta. The knowledge exchange marked a significant step forward for all parties in future research consortia with ITB.
