BINUS University Holds Seminar and Bilateral Discussion to Advance Collaboration with Debre Markos University

On Thursday, 30 July 2026, BINUS University, through the Bioinformatics & Data Science Research Center (BDSRC) and the School of Computer Science (SoCS), organized a hybrid seminar and bilateral discussion as part of the Visiting Professor Programme with Debre Markos University, Ethiopia. The programme featured Zewdie Mossie Erukneh, Ph.D., Assistant Professor from Debre Markos University, and was attended by lecturers, researchers, and students from BINUS University, together with researchers from Debre Markos University participating both onsite and online. The seminar was moderated by Dr. Hidayaturrahman, S.Kom., M.T., Lecturer at the School of Computer Science (SoCS), BINUS University.  

During the seminar, Zewdie Mossie Erukneh, Ph.D. delivered presentations entitled “Ethiopia: A Land of Origins and Enduring Heritage” and “Predictive AI for Maternal Mortality Reduction: Lessons from East Africa.” The presentations introduced ongoing research at Debre Markos University while demonstrating how artificial intelligence can be applied to address societal challenges. The session also provided an opportunity for participants to exchange ideas on emerging research topics and potential academic collaboration. The seminar concluded with remarks from Prof. Dr. Bens Pardamean, who encouraged both institutions to continue developing collaborative research initiatives and strengthen academic cooperation. 

The afternoon session continued with a bilateral discussion between BINUS University, represented by the Bioinformatics & Data Science Research Center (BDSRC) and the School of Computer Science (SoCS), and Debre Markos University. Representatives from both institutions introduced their academic programmes, research activities, and research roadmaps, followed by discussions on identifying common research interests and potential areas for collaboration. The discussion also explored opportunities for joint research, publications, and future collaborative initiatives. The session concluded with a shared commitment to maintain communication and continue developing cooperation between BINUS University and Debre Markos University.
