BINUS Research Group to Develop Media and Education Programs to Empower Women and Children

JAKARTA — The Cross-Cultural Communication Research Interest Group (RIG CrossComm) of Binus University is considering new social and commercial research studies to assist villages, local governments, and companies in Indonesia. The group held a meeting on March 4 at Binus Anggrek campus with several things on the agenda.

Joice Luke (pictured second from right), a lecturer of Language Center in Binus University, is leading a team of lecturers from the Communications and Linguistic Departments of Binus University and Binus University International to meet with the Village Head of Cangkudu on March 12. The project is hoped to set an example to other villages in Indonesia to see the importance of media and education to empower women and children. Amir Hamzah, the Village Head of Cangkudu, has made significant changes in the village since his election back in 2013. One of them is in the area of communications and technology. Cangkudu Village is located in Balaraja Sub-District, Tangerang District, West Java.

The head of RIG CrossComm, Dr. Ulani Yunus (pictured on the left), also proposed some ideas to help Indonesian companies do their market research.

In the meeting, the team also welcomed the newest addition to the group, Kezia Nanda (pictured on the right), a communications lecturer of Binus University International. She is passionate about education and orphans. She was a professor’s assistant at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, USA when she was pursuing her master’s degree in journalism.

The Cross-Cultural Communication Research Interest Group (RIG CrossComm) is a research group founded in Binus University which focuses on cross-cultural communication. The group consists of researchers and/or lecturers from various disciplines, such as Marketing Communication, Cultural Communication, Mass Communication, Psychology, Language and Education.
