TNR to Minimize the Number of Stray Cats/Dogs Population in Indonesia

Indonesia, as one of the biggest island country in the world, is facing problems caused by the huge number of stray/roaming cats and dogs. They are roaming around neighbourhoods, damaging properties, meshing around with thrash, threatening people, or even spreading decease. This article is focusing on the activities to control the number of stray cats and dogs population in order to create a better life for people and pets as well. Descriptive qualitative method was used in the research, by observing, interviewing and describing the actions taken by an non-government organization, named Let’s Adopt Indonesia (LAI). The research has come to a conclusion that one of the best ways in managing strays was by doing spaying/neutering. The program trap-neuter-release was one of the activities done by LAI as a social community that has a concern on the problem, and then took a real action to help the government in order to overcome the problem caused by the stray cats and dogs in Indonesia, especially in Greater Jakarta area. It was expected that the research could educate more people in Indonesia on how to handle or minimize the number of strays population, so it could become a friendly society for people and pets to live together peacefully.
