On 23 June 2026, BINUS University, represented by the Bioinformatics and Data Science Research Center (BDSRC), together with Kalurahan Giripeni, conducted a monitoring and evaluation (Monev) of their ongoing research and community development program in Giripeni, Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta. The activity was carried out as part of the implementation of the long-term collaboration established between both institutions to support integrated and precision agriculture. Representing BDSRC, Prof. Dr. Bens Pardamean and Kuncahyo Setyo Nugroho, S.Kom., M.Kom. participated in the monitoring and evaluation. The activity aimed to ensure that the program was progressing according to plan, evaluate its implementation, and identify potential challenges at an early stage.<\/p>\n

The monitoring and evaluation also involved representatives from BINUS @Semarang, namely Dr. Prabowo Wahyu Sudarno from the School of Computer Science and Nur Sitha Afrilia, S.S., M.S., Research Coordinator of BINUS @Semarang. Their participation is expected to encourage greater involvement from BINUS @Semarang in future field activities, considering its closer proximity to Kalurahan Giripeni. In addition, three researchers from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Center for Horticultural Research, participated in the monitoring and evaluation, contributing their expertise to assess the progress of the ongoing research activities and provide recommendations for the continued development of the greenhouse melon cultivation program<\/p>\n

During the visit, the team reviewed the progress of the greenhouse melon cultivation program. Through BDSRC, BINUS University has developed PantauMelon<\/strong>, a digital platform designed for greenhouse monitoring and field data recording. The platform is also equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology for melon leaf health detection, enabling more accurate and data-driven crop monitoring. As the first year of the collaboration, the research is focused on collecting comprehensive data on melon growth and greenhouse environmental conditions to establish a reliable foundation for future AI-driven precision agriculture. At the time of the visit, the melon plants were 10 days after planting, while routine data collection is scheduled to begin 20 days after planting. The field implementation of PantauMelon also provided an opportunity for the greenhouse management team to evaluate the system and propose several additional features to further improve its functionality and usability in daily greenhouse operations.<\/p>\n

The monitoring and evaluation concluded with a strategic discussion between BINUS University and Kalurahan Giripeni to establish a four-year roadmap for the development of precision greenhouse agriculture for melon cultivation. Through this roadmap, both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to advancing research, technology implementation, and community empowerment, ensuring that the collaboration continues to generate sustainable impact for the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n
