Round Table Discussion, Launching of The Premiere AI R&D Center in Indonesia

Bina Nusantara University held a round table discussion for the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the launching of the Premiere AI R&D Center in Indonesia, 28 August 2017. The topic of this discussion is the current situation of AI in Smart City and Agriculture. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Bens Pardamean, Head of Bioinformatics and Data Science Research Center, Bina Nusantara University. To open the discussion, Raymond Teh, Vice President sales and marketing of NVIDIA Asia Pacific region, brought a topic of AI in current industries.

In this session, Teh said that since 1995, there was always a big bang in technology for every decade. The first big bang was when internet was popularly used in 1995. The second big bang was when the smart phone started to be ubiquitous in 2005. Teh believed that the next big bang in technology industries are AI and Internet of Things (IoT) that were started to be popular in 2015.

Teh also noted that AI is already ubiquitous nowadays. AI has been applied in various technology, for instance: voice search, shopping assistance, and even movie recommendation. AI also has been used to help human in various aspects. AI already helps us to break language barriers by enabling real-time translation. AI also already supports human by providing the most optimal treatment to a sickness. Not to mention that AI also enhances the ability of blinds to recognize world using audible vision assistance.
