Dr. Stijn Cornelis van Huis

Dr. Stijn Cornelis van Huis is a legal scholar and lecturer at the Business Law Department of BINUS University, Jakarta, Indonesia. He holds a Ph.D. in Law from Leiden University, where he conducted extensive empirical research on women’s divorce rights in Indonesian Islamic courts. His research interests include Indonesian law and society, access to justice, Islamic family law, and the legal status of women and children in Southeast Asia. 

Dr. van Huis has held postdoctoral research positions at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law (Germany), Humboldt University (Berlin), and Leiden University. He has also served as a consultant on justice sector reform and legal development projects with institutions such as the Dutch National Ombudsman, the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT), and CILC. 

As a keynote speaker at ICOBAR 2025, Dr. Van Huis will discuss the concept of disruption – the phenomenon that the digital era brings about societal changes that distort the functioning of traditional social and legal concepts in society.
