Food Biotechnology

Research Center Food Biotech took its place to enhance research activities especially in the field of plant biotechnology for the development of healthy functional foods and medicines. They have collaborated with Food Technology Department of Binus University, Indonesian Center for Agricultural Biotechnology and Genetic Resources Research and Development, and Research Institute for Medicinal and Aromatic Plants. RC-Food Biotech has collected many in vitro herbal plants, such as rodent tuber (Typhonium flagelliforme Lodd., from Bogor, Pekalongan, and Medan), cat’s whiskers (Orthosiphon aristatus), red betel (Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav.), and banana plant (Musa sp.)

1. Exploring the potency of a wide range of Indonesian herbal and root vegetable plants.
2. Screening and increasing the quality of herbal and root vegetable plants for developing them into functional foods and drugs.
3. Obtaining the superior mutant clones of rodent tuber by applying biotechnological methods. These mutant clones will be developed as functional healthy drinks and medicines for the prevention and treatment of cancer, respectively.
